Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" area. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of diverse communities. People who have never been aware of it frequently think it is a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often mentioned, but her brief visit to the West Island wasn't. Brugel grew on Courtice close to Oshawa located in Ontario. Her initial ambition was to become an actress, however, after a rapid growth spurt her partners could no longer dance along with her. She admitted in an article written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. As I grew older than my male partners I stopped. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in Brugel's situation, it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school that encouraged her to go in that direction. It was the teacher who recommended she pursue a role for the school's annual production. She tried out and ended up playing the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Through the years since Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows on the big and small screens drawing the most attention when she landed the character of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel appeared only on rare moments in the very first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the only Canadian member.
